A Knifehand (also called the hand blade) is an open hand position.
- The four finger are held closely together, mostly straight, with just a slight bend to the fingers. The hand should look "like the head of a cobra."
- The thumb is held tight against the side of the hand, bent 90-degrees at the thumb joint so that the end of the thumb is in the palm.
- The pinky-side of the hand is used for striking or blocking. Note that one does not strike with the pinky itself, but with the muscled side of the hand.
