The Spinning Heel Kick (also called Spinning Wheel Kick or Stiff-Leg Spinning Heel kick) is a variation of a Heel Kick. This kick is typically forgotten as an individual kick and has become another name for the Back Hook Kick.

The spinning heel kick begins by having the kicking foot in back, then spinning just as one would for a tornado kick. Once the torso has spun 180 degrees, to add more power, the upper body drops down so that your upper body is angled towards the ground, and the kicking leg rises, and moves horizontally toward the opponent.

  • Some highly experienced students have been known to spin, hit their target, and spin the opposite way to put their foot down, though usually, many people let the kick continue it's path until it has gone a full 360 degrees.
  • This kick can be performed at a downward angle, making it a Downward Spinning Heel Kick.
  • This kick can be performed after a jump, making it a Jump Spinning Heel Kick, a very difficult kick to perform in sparring.
  • This kick can be applied to the ankles, making it a Low Spinning Heel Kick, which makes it one of the only named sweeps in Taekwondo.
